Overview: 

The ANZAC Day Poppy Collection is a hands-on literacy activity that combines movement, visual learning, and reading decodable words. Learners search for poppy cards hidden around a designated area, read the decodable words written on each poppy, and record their answers on a matching worksheet. Designed around ANZAC Day poppies, this activity provides a themed way to engage learners in literacy practice.

Implementation Guidance
Print and cut out the poppy cards before the lesson. Begin by introducing the activity and reviewing the words with learners so they are familiar with the target vocabulary. Hide the numbered poppies around a designated area in the classroom. Give each learner a recording sheet and explain that they must find each poppy, read the word, and write it on the matching numbered line. If desired, learners can also write a rhyming word for each one. Once all poppies have been found, review the answers together and compare responses as a group.
